Android's MobileMe cell phone backup service

HTC released its MobileMe like cell phone backup service for its Android cell phone users.

After signing in with htcsense.com from their cell phones, HTC Android users can enjoy the same cell phone backup and cell phone tracking service, the same as MobileMe and Find My iPhone.

Compared to Find My iPhone, HTC provides this cell phone locating service to its users free or charge, which makes it rather tempting.

If you have some knowledge about HTC, you must know htcsense is a very popular user interface on HTC Android cell phones, but this time, this website is used to provide full service to Android users, not just merely an interface.

Cell phone tracking vs cell phone lookup

It might have been confusing to see cell phone tracker and cell phone lookup around the internet, well, they are not the same thing.

Cell phone tracking is using GPS, cell towers or WiFi hotspots to determine a mobile phone location in real-time and track its movements. This usually means you need to install some cell phone tracking software or need your ISP's assistance.

While cell phone lookup is look up a cell phone number in a cell phone number directory and find its owner, registered address and city etc. If there is not such a record in the database, then you could find nothing.

You can track a cell phone with the owner's permission or if you are the owner, but you can reverse any cell phone number you have.

Insight into GSM cell phone tracking

Cell phone tracking can be classified as network based and handy device based.

The former way does not require the mobile device do anything, so it means you do not have to change anything to your mobile phone, the base station will calculate the distance, determine its rough location.

The latter way requires the mobile device to install some location app to acquire the GPS coordinates; it may means you need a GPS receiver and calculate the relevant data, or send the raw data to a location server to do the job.

However it easy said than done, there are more work to do in order to track a cell phone, you need mobile internet to send the data, and a server to receive the data, process it, and then show the data on a map like Google Maps.

Free cell phone locator for Blackberry and Windows Mobile

Mologogo is one of the first cell phone locator software for BlackBerry and Windows Mobile phones. In those days, BlackBerry cell phones used to be very popular in the US (it’s still popular among enterprise users), and that's why many can still remember Mologogo.

Although Mologogo does have some nice features, but in a time when touch screen cell phones like iPhone and Anroid cell phones prevails, Mologogo gets outdated, and not many people use it.

People now use Find My iPone, Glympse, InstaMapper and other cell phone locating apps. But it's still worthwhile to mention it, and do not forget, it's a free cell phone tracker.

We got the news that Mologogo support touch screen cell phones in the future, but let us just wait. If you happen to have a BlackBerry or Windows Mobile phone, you may give it a go.

Latest developments in mobile phone tracking

The technology of tracking mobile phone locations has greatly improved in the past few years as in the early days mobile phone GPS tracking was a very rough position calculated from the nearest mobile phone towers, and the location may be somewhere from 100 to 300 square meters.

With the developments of satellite technology the much more accurate tracking technology are now possible to track a mobile phone location with pinpoint accuracy, however even this can be flawed by the user simply turning the mobile phone off, or the GPS signal could not reach the location where the mobile phone is, such as in a tunnel or surrounded by certain terrain like mountains.

The most advanced and mostly used technology now for tracking mobile phone locations is called Wi-Fi positioning, or often referred to as WPS.

The WPS tracking system take advantage of a range of wireless network systems for tracking mobile phone locations and through a comprehensive network of WiFi hotspots, a grid system is put into place that makes locating a mobile phone position far more accurate and ultimately a more precise process for the end user.

The advancement of WPS tracking and technology in general mean that it is quite possible for anyone to find more information about a mobile phone number and also to track its location of a mobile phone if you wish to.
